Formula One (Open Topic)

Recently, I was scrolling on my phone, watching reels on Instagram, and suddenly, I came across a reel talking about the sport of fast racing, F1. I had heard about it before but had not given it much attention. What stood out to me was how they were racing in Las Vegas, down the strip, for the first time ever. Which immediately piqued my interest. I was reading many of the comments, and a lot were implying that Las Vegas was doing a lot in terms of roadwork and repaving for most of the competitors to be fighting from second, which struck me as odd. Why Second and not first? So I googled it: Max Verstappen, a Dutch racer who races with Red Bull Racing, has 13 wins and 400 points on the season; you get points based on race placement, and the leader wins a championship at the end. Twenty total competitors compete for ten different racing teams. These racing teams are also fighting for a championship because both drivers accumulate points for the team. However, Red Bull Racing has dominat...

Guided Reflection about Documentary

Image
Specific Scene The protagonist focuses on four different types of people: a preacher, a kung fu master, a terrorist, and a bank robber. They dive into their backstories quite intensively, how they were as children and their home life. Before explaining who they were, one of the men grew up getting abused by his father; he would get beat and almost watch his brother die. He ended up stabbing his father with a knife after finally having enough of the abuse, as that night, he had broken ribs and a concussion from the beatings. But this scene just got to me and made me angry that parents treat their kids in this type of manner. I was lucky to grow up in a loving household where my parents cared about me. It just makes me confused as to why other parents physically abuse their children, as it can have incredible effects on them and how they grow up; it changes them. It shows the brokenness of the world. Surprises Im not one to make assumptions about anyone, but I was shocked to hear ...

Visual Literacy

Image
What does visual literacy mean? When we think of visual literacy, we refer to our awareness levels and the importance of visual communication in our everyday lives. Nevertheless, it also affects our ability to interpret and make meaningful assumptions or thoughts from diving deeper into an image's context. When we focus on examining something, like an image, we see the way that the images influence our understanding and have the potential to validate, reveal, and construct the world as we know it. However, why is Visual literacy critical? Well, it can improve one's creativity, critical thinking, empathy, communication, comprehension, and motivation, all essential skills for the youth to learn quickly. Visual literacy can also help store information longer, which is essential for test taking, make communication quicker and more straightforward, and spark curiosity and interest in a tricky subject that previously would have caused negative emotions and feelings. In other words, i...

Challenges & Experiences at college

Image
If I'm going to be honest, I wouldn't say I've had many challenges in college yet; they are definitely going to arise at some point. But at the moment, it's been reading my email thoroughly; I didn't for my Spanish class and didn't realize that part of the homework was answering questions that happened to have been on the email that I didn't read thoroughly, so that was unfortunate. Talking about the experience side of it, it's been good. We've started unofficial Lacrosse practices, which have given me something to do during the weekdays and helped me get better at the sport for when official practices start. It's also fun to be on a team and bond with a bunch of guys who share the same interests as you. Other than that, there isn't much to report on, but overall, college is as I was expecting.

Challenges and Experiences W/ Microtheme

At the start of this, I never would have believed a one-page paper would end up causing me to think as hard as I've had to. There were thousands of topics to choose from, yet everyone I leaned towards didn't set me up with a good foot in the ground to touch on everything I needed to touch on throughout the essay. Occasionally, I cracked the code on what a good topic was. Therefore, I would start writing a rough draft and end up with nothing, no ideas on where to continue going with the topic, forcing me to start from scratch. After having that happen twice, I found a good topic; at least, I'd imagine it's a good topic. We must wait for peer review to decide the topic's fate. It's also slightly confusing as there are so many minor details to avoid or put in, which is different from most essays I'm used to writing where it told you exactly what to include, and I never really had to worry about including something I shouldn't have.
