Snowboarding (Open Topic)

Snowboarding is a widely known winter sport on tall, glistening, white mountain peaks. The sport was invented in 1965; however, it didn't widely become popular until the mid-80s, when people who wanted to snowboard had to walk up hills to do so because many ski resorts banned them from obtaining ski lift passes due to the usual crowd that used snowboarders which were reckless and loud, taking away from the peaceful atmosphere to the skiers. Today, almost all except three ski resorts have lifted the ban on snowboarders, all except Deer Valley, Alta Ski Resort, and Mad River Glenn. Today, there are about 8 million snowboarders in the USA, which is still growing thanks to athletes in the Olympic Winter Games like Red Gerard and Chloe Kim, who both earned gold as recently as 2022 and 2018.

Enough with the history. When I was in the first grade, my dad brought me to my First Mountain, or as most would consider it, a hill, But for Michigan, it was still decent in size. He brought me out and taught me all there was to know about snowboarding. Since that point, I was hooked. I've consistently improved every year and made a point to go multiple times per year. Due to my increasing skill level, I've taken some trips out West to big resorts with my dad and spent quality time with him, both enjoying something we love equally. I've traveled to resorts like Keystone, Arapahoe Basin, Loveland, Jay Peak, Whitefish, and Whistler. What I love about snowboarding is the freedom you feel when you have snow underneath your board. You can do whatever you want, and there's so much variety for a rider's different skill levels and interests. I love all terrain, from the Tree runs to just getting to go in the terrain park where the boxes, the rails, and the jumps are. Just adrenaline rushes for me, But I especially love going through the backcountry terrain, like a tree and unmarked trails, as that is where you find the excellent snow. The biggest rush in snowboarding is when you have a powder day or good snow; all the snow from the night builds up, and it's so fresh. You wake up, and it's just waiting for you; you can glide through it, making your whole day. Sadly, I've only gotten to experience this fate once, when I went to Montana in December. But man, was it some of the best snowboarding I've ever done. And I hope I can do it at some point in my life again.
